Description

“The product is a lightweight, rubber-based, tongue-and-groove tile that looks like stone,” says William Sirotak, Sales Manager for Keith Green Construction.

The advantage of using a product made from discarded tires is clear: Re-roofing an average-sized home keeps 600 to 1,000 tires out of landfills.

“Euroslate is developed from recycled products. It is environmentally friendly, and the roof itself can be recycled when it reaches its end-of-life,” he adds. Sirotak has sold Euroslate for 8 years, and has been in the roofing business for more than 20.

Designed to withstand high impacts, the roof is impervious to damage caused by falling tree limbs, hail, and careless footsteps of homeowners. Sirotak says common roof ailments, such as leaves, pine needles, moss and algae, are not a concern. Nor does the roof experience damage from annual freeze and thaw cycles.

Virtually indestructible, the tiles are available with a “Class A” fire rating, and are guaranteed to withstand wind gusts of up to 110 mph. The rubber tiles act as an insulation barrier, which translates into lower energy costs as air conditioning and heating requirements are reduced. The roof comes with a 50-year transferable warranty.

“The only downside is you have to pay for it,” Sirotak says. Although a Euroslate roof is a high-end product, it is an investment worth considering, because it protects family, property, and the environment.

Durable, Attractive
During this years home shows, traffic through the Keith Green Construction booth was brisk. Visitors pulled on the tiles and watched Sirotak kick the floor model vigorously with nary a dent or footprint left behind. He also sat or stepped on the roof, further proof of its durability.

The tiles are available in two different styles: slate and shake. Each has the appearance of natural stone or wood. As the product ages, it attains an attractive patina.

Homeowners have the option of coordinating color and style for their roofing tiles to match driveways, walkways and exterior design. This creates a more refined look, further boosting “curb appeal” and the re-sale value of the home.

An added plus: Insurance companies favor the durable nature of products like Euroslate. A recent study conducted by the insurance industry shows the average yearly wind and hail losses involving roof failures has exceeded $1.6 billion in claims.
