Description
EXPANSION
It was the energy, drive and business acumen of the founder H.J. Bird, that enabled the firm to grow. In the 30s and 40s the operations expanded into Manitoba & Alberta, positioning Bird well in supporting the military construction program launched at the onset of the Second World War.
Building on our success during the 40s and 50s, expansion continued, and branch operations were opened in Vancouver and Toronto in the middle 60s.
DIVERSIFICATION
As the company grew throughout the 70s, it also diversified operations. While still contracting in the residential, institutional and industrial markets, the company increased its technical base to serve clients with other forms of contract services.
RESTRUCTURING AND GROWTH
Through the 80s and 90s, management changes and restructuring continued to build the operational side of the business and ensured continued growth and a dynamic environment for the outstanding people who provide the basic strength of our company.
CONTINUED SUCCESS
Nineteen consecutive years of profitability and growth in sales from $88 million in 1988 to over $500 million in 2006, positioned Bird Construction for further expansion. In 1998 the company's first U.S. operation was opened in Seattle, Washington.
Today Bird Construction continues to be one of the leading national general contractors providing construction services for a long list of new and repeat clients.
